ELECTRIC VEHICLES ARE OUR FUTURE
“Electric vehicles are our future, and this campaign will improve public understanding of their environmental effect while also encouraging them to switch to electric or hybrid cars.”
The pressure to reduce air pollution in the United Kingdom comes after for the first time ever, when air pollution was named as a cause of death by the UK's Royal College of Physicians and Paediatrics and Child Health. According to The Royal College of Physicians and Paediatrics & Child Health, 40,000 yearly premature deaths in the UK are caused.
It is expected that each Clean Air Zone will help the UK meet EU requirements for clean air and reduce pollution levels.
Despite delays caused by the pandemic, the program has already begun in Bath, where it was launched in March. Local governments are responsible for identifying clean air zones, and each council must develop an air quality improvement plan and submit it to the government by 2018.
CLEAN AIR ZONE: ELECTRIC CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE ROLL OUT
With electric cars becoming more popular, the government will need to build an effective electric charging infrastructure to ensure that drivers are able to charge their automobiles. They claim, because the future is electric, therefore in addition to CAZ, there will be a requirement for an efficient electrical charging system.
The government's Clean Air Zone (CAZ) plan, which will begin implementation throughout UK regions this year, has prompted controversy among politicians and drivers alike.
“We've seen a tremendous rise in electric car drivers this year and next. Before the Clean Air Zones were established across the UK, people were adopting Electric and Plug-in Hybrids. We just hope that as the government provides adequate charging infrastructure to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles, clean air zones will be introduced.”
According to one of the UK's most experienced car leasing specialists, Tim Alcock at LeaseCar UK, beginning roll charging infrastructure in areas is critical for the growth of electric vehicles and Clean Air Zones.
